Put on your walking shoes!
Studies suggest walking is as effective as medication for treating depression!
Specifically, research has shown regularly walking (30 minutes a day/ 5 days a week) reduces symptoms of mild to moderate depression. Traditionally, medication has not been as successful in treating less severe depression. Additionally, studies indicate that those who add walking as a secondary treatment when they’re not fully satisfied with their anti-depressant medication showed significant improvement in symptoms.
Even if you’re not exhibiting symptoms of depression, walking won’t hurt! In fact, regular exercise like walking helps release endorphins, energize, and clear your mind. I don’t think it’s a stretch to say that it will make you a bit happier too!
Read more about these studies here, and here!
(I’m not telling you not to take any medication that may have been prescribed by your doctor/psychiatrist, just suggesting you start including some exercise in your routine! As always, talk to your doctor before making any changes to your treatment plan.)
Have a fantastic day,
Rachel
