Nap Time

Apparently my posts on anything sleep-related have been the most popular surprise, surprise!Today I bring you a topic that we busy, stressed-out people often neglect: NAPS! Most people probably think naps stop being appropriate after kindergarten (flashback to preschool naps on cots  ). But studies show that people who nap are more efficient, alert, and healthy! As an added bonus, those who nap tend to fall asleep faster and stay asleep longer at night than those who don’t.
But do you know how to nap properly? Some tips for the optimal nap:
  • Space: find yourself someplace relatively quiet and comfortable, bonus if you can find a pillow and blanket
  • Dark: turn off the lights if you can, or maybe you can use a pillow or eye mask to block light
  • Time: don’t nap within 3 hours of when you’d go to bed, it might interfere with falling asleep later
  • Alarm: limit your nap to 20-30 minutes, any longer and you risk falling into deeper sleep that’s harder to wake up from
If you’re not getting enough sleep at night, naps might be a good supplement for the rest you’re missing out on!
