or could it be something more? Not as common in Los Angeles (for obvious reasons), Seasonal Affective Disorder is a real problem for many people who live in parts of the world that go through significant changes in the winter. It can range from feeling a little sad when winter rolls around to something more severe that includes symptoms of clinical depression. Causes point to lack of sunlight, stress, and genetics. Help can come in the form of psychotherapy- to address the clinical causes, as well as light therapy- via special bulbs or getting more sunlight. It’s important to recognize mood patterns and major changes due to shifts in weather –or anything else for that matter. The sooner you seek help, the better.
What if your blues are caused by stress from family, shopping, or the pressures of the holidays? Try shifting the focus to what you find pleasurable – christmas lights, lit fireplaces, warm sweaters, snow… I wish… Spend time with people who don’t stress you out and let you vent about the things that bother you.
It’ll be spring before we know it!
