In today’s busy world, it seems the only time couples get to connect is during a rare weekend getaway or an anniversary. Connection is essential – so let’s find the time! And by connection, I simply mean having moments together to physically be together to talk, share, reflect… or whatever!
Find some time to spend together, despite how much time you have to offer. Even if you spend 10 minutes talking before you go to bed each night – that’s still quality time to connect. Let’s think about activities you both have to engage in: eating dinner is probably at the top of that list. We all have to eat, so why not do it together. This may mean that one of you alters their schedule to ensure you eat together, but it’ll be worth it.
While we’re at it, how about some rules? Come up with a plan of who will cook and who will do the dishes, or if you’ll alternate responsibilities (hey, how about doing them together?). Know what kills connection faster than anything? Interruption! Put those babies to bed and turn off the cell phones, there’s nothing more important than your marriage!
Bon apetit!
